Admissions Policy
| K4/K5: | ||||||||||
| A) General rule of October 1st birthday | ||||||||||
| 1) K5 must be 5 years of age by 10/1 | ||||||||||
| 2) K4 must be 4 years of age by 10/1 | ||||||||||
| B) Exceptions for K4 & K5 | ||||||||||
| 1) No more than 20% of 3 year olds in K4 | ||||||||||
| a) Must turn 4 before January 1st | ||||||||||
| 2) No more than 20% of 4 year olds in K5 | ||||||||||
| a) Must turn 5 before January 1st | ||||||||||
| 3) If a 3 year old meets the above criteria and is placed into K4 there is no guarantee that they will move into K5 the following year | ||||||||||

| 4) If a 4 year old meets the above criteria and is placed into K5 they must report to K5 the following year. | ||||||||||
| Grade 1: | ||||||||||
| A) Students entering 1st Grade must be 6 years old by October 1st | ||||||||||
| 1) Must take MET Readiness Test or SAT | ||||||||||
| 2) All students applying for admission to Shelby Academy after 1st Grade must take SAT (Math, | ||||||||||
| English, Reading Comprehension) | ||||||||||
| a) 40 percentile average in all subjects is an acceptable | ||||||||||
| b) Students scoring lower than 40 percentile may be admitted on 1 year academic probation | ||||||||||
| c) Students on probation must maintain 70 average in all core curriculum during probation period | ||||||||||
| 3) Students applying for admission to Shelby Academy who have been suspended from another | ||||||||||
| school will be considered on an individual basis. | ||||||||||
| a) May be accepted on 1 year behavioral probation | ||||||||||
| b) If suspended during probation period, student will not be allowed to return | ||||||||||
| c) Drug related suspensions will not be accepted for admission | ||||||||||
| B) Students transferring from Non-Traditional programs or Home Schooling | ||||||||||
| 1) All entrance requirements must be met plus acceptable score on SAT (Reading, English, Math | ||||||||||
| Comprehension, Math Application) | ||||||||||
| Grades 2-12: | ||||||||||
| A) TESTING REQUIREMENT | ||||||||||
| 1) All applicants must take the Stanford Achievement Test covering the following areas: | ||||||||||
| a) Reading Comprehension | ||||||||||
| b) Vocabulary | ||||||||||
| c) Math Application | ||||||||||
| d) Math Computation | ||||||||||
| 2) Test dates are scheduled on the last Wednesday of June and July at 10:00 a.m. and also | ||||||||||
| on the last Wednesday of August prior to the established registration date. | ||||||||||
| 3) Tests are administered by appointment only. | ||||||||||
| B) ADMISSION COMMITTEE | ||||||||||
| 1) All applications are reviewed by the admission committee to discuss: | ||||||||||
| a) Achievement Test scores | ||||||||||
| b) Previous academic standing | ||||||||||
| c) Previous disciplinary problems, if any | ||||||||||
| C) BOARD APPROVAL | ||||||||||
| 1) The admission committee makes recommendations to the Board of Directors for all applicants. | ||||||||||
| 2) All applicants must be approved for admission by a vote of the Board of Directors. | ||||||||||
| D) SIGNED CONTRACT | ||||||||||
| 1) If the Board approves the applicant for admission, a contract will be mailed to the applicant | ||||||||||
| for the parent or guardian's signature. | ||||||||||
| 2) When the contract is signed and returned to Shelby Academy, the new student may register | ||||||||||
| for the current academic year. | ||||||||||
